Assessment of previous foreign education

The assessment of foreign education is intended for applicants to study at TUL who have completed their previous education at a foreign school.

If you need to have your foreign education recognized for use outside of studies at TUL, the Recognition of Foreign Education (Nostrification) applies to you.

Procedure for submitting an application

(Note: this procedure does not apply to the cases in paragraph 10 below)

  1. A graduate of a foreign secondary school or university (hereinafter referred to as the applicant) submits an application to study at the selected faculty(ies).
  2. If an applicant submits more than one application to study, they submit the application for foreign education assessment only once and list all the faculties to which they are applying in the application.
  3. Assessment of foreign education is carried out by the International Office of TUL. In case of questions you can contact:
  4. The applicant shall send the documents including the application in the required form to the following address:
  1. After receiving the application, the TUL International Office will verify payment of the administrative fee for the assessment of previous foreign education. It will check the application and the documents for the assessment of previous foreign education, their authenticity, the level of verification required, and if necessary the translation of the documents into Czech or English.
  2. If all the necessary criteria for the application are met according to TUL’s internal standards, the application will be assessed positively by TUL.
  3. TUL does not issue a separate written decision on the result of the assessment, but informs the Study Department of the faculty(ies) to which the applicant submitted the application. The faculty(ies) then inform(s) the applicant about the status of their admission to study at TUL as part of the admission procedure.
  4. If TUL has doubts about the sufficiency of the level, extent or content of the applicant’s previous foreign education as evidenced by the foreign document, the result of the assessment is negative. The faculty(ies) is/are informed. If TUL does not approve the application, the applicant is informed of the result by e-mail. The applicant is also informed of the defects in the submitted application and invited to remedy them. In extreme cases, the applicant may be asked by the faculty(ies) to submit general nostrification of secondary or higher (university) education. In this case, the applicant must provide evidence of the fulfilment of the condition of previous education by proof of the general recognition of the equivalence or validity of the foreign document of foreign education.
  5. The assessment of previous foreign education completed at TUL is valid only for studies at TUL for the academic year for which the applicant is applying to study. It is then valid for all applications to study submitted by the applicant in that particular academic year.
  6. This procedure does not apply to situations where the applicant can provide the following documents. These documents are sent directly to the Study Department of the faculty(ies) to which the applicant is applying to study:
    • a general recognition of the equivalence or validity of a foreign document pursuant to Section 48(4)(a) or (5)(a) of the Act (so-called general nostrification – Nostrification clauses or Certificates of recognition of foreign higher education and qualifications in the Czech Republic)
