Bioengineering

Educational goals

The aim of the study is: ” Provide graduates with university-type education for bioengineering. The study program is conceived as an engineering education, which is based mainly on the knowledge of physics and biology as well as mathematics and chemistry. The study program directs students to the ability to solve engineering problems in the field of life sciences (ie biology and medicine). ” Mastering the analytical and synthetic bioengineering approaches needed to improve medical materials ranging from examining the physiological behavior of individual cells to designing implants based on living and inanimate materials to replace diseased or injured tissue. ” Development of Bioengineering in the spirit of university education. This means educating the students so that they are able to think critically, which will not only create a professional but also a social environment and take civic attitudes. For this reason, the aim of the study is a deep understanding of the technical issues that will allow a critical assessment of the knowledge and skills transferred, including the ethical context of modern bioengineering practices. ” Preparation of graduates for continuing doctoral programs at the Technical University of Liberec (TUL), especially in the doctoral study program Nanotechnology. Similarly, graduates can continue in a wide range of doctoral programs in applied physics, chemistry, biology and material engineering at other universities. ” To fulfill the link between scientific, research and development activities ensuring the transfer of new theoretical and application results to education.

Profile of the graduate

Graduates of the follow-up master’s degree program in bioengineering will work as production and operational engineers and technologists, employees of control laboratories and testing laboratories in the medical and pharmaceutical industries. It will mainly be used in research and academic workplaces dealing with developing biomaterials and materials for medical devices, independent scientists or researchers, or in middle and senior management positions. In particular, they are well prepared for application in materials research and management of modern operational technologies in various industries related to biological materials and materials intended for medical applications. Graduates are also widely employed in state health authorities, e.g., the State Institute for Drug Control). The possibilities of application are by no means limited to the Czech Republic or Europe.
