Inappropriate behaviour towards a person based on their gender. It often builds on the perceived inferiority of one gender or the other.
Examples:
- The only male in a meeting is left out of the discussion.
- Deliberately offensive communication with a person of a non-binary gender.
- Disparaging questions about sexual orientation or gender identity.
- Inadequate response by supervisors and/or employer to complaints of gender-based violence or harassment.
- Failure to promote a qualified employee on the basis of gender.
- Making jokes at the expense of a non-binary student.
